Hi, Francine here! 👋 In this issue, we'll be talking about the different data sprint projects our students have been engaging in. What are data sprints? They're also known as project-based learning sprints where learners complete data projects in 2-week bursts, mimicking the way that tech teams all around the world have been working for the past few years. We started incorporating this approach mid-2020. Today, data sprints are an integral part of our 12-week Data Science Fellowship and 8-week Data Analytics Bootcamp. We're excited to share samples of what our Fellows and Analysts have been working on these past few weeks. 💖

🖥️ Data Science Fellowship
Last February 6, our Data Science Fellowship Cohort 6 Fellows completed their first supervised machine learning project by creating their own Spotify recommender engine! 🎶 🎵 This "Spotify Recommender Engine" data sprint is a favorite among our Fellows!
They were guided through this sprint by their instructor, Climate scientist and Data scientist JC Peralta. Using data the students scraped using Spotify API, they were able to provide data-driven strategies that will benefit their chosen artists.

📝 ADMISSIONS NEWS 📝
Our Data Science Fellowship is a part-time program for those who are serious about working as data scientists. Through live classes and industry mentorship, learners will deploy their first data app, create a recommender engine, develop a fraud detection system, and build a web scraper while collaborating alongside peers. Students commit 20 hours per week, receive live online training from industry-level instructors and mentors, and work alongside their peers.
Cohort 7 is open for enrolment! Here are important dates to remember:

May 7 - Student Orientation

📊 Data Analytics Bootcamp
For their first data sprint called "CO2 Emissions Dashboard" which wrapped up just a few weeks ago, our Cohort 1 Data Analytics Bootcamp Analysts used PowerBI to design a dashboard that investigates the movement of global CO2 data—complete with dynamic dashboard elements and beautiful visualizations!
Currently, they are tackling their second data sprint "Company Deep Dive with SQL." Their task is to explore the product performance and sales of a company, while mastering the queries, joins, and syntax of SQL along the way.
Just yesterday they finished giving their sprint #2 presentations! We'll be sharing some screen shots of this in a future newsletter.

Our Data Analytics Bootcamp is a part-time program to become a data analyst or to level-up in a current role using analytics. Through live classes and industry mentorship, learners will wrangle and visualize data using tools like Excel, PowerBI, and SQL. Students commit 9-12 hours per week to attend online live sessions hosted by expert instructors, learn from mentors with industry experience, and practice with their peers on data analytics project sprints.
