E is for Eskwelabs Issue 039 - Spreading the Light of our Data Education Advocacy
In our thirty-ninth issue, we delve into the ways we make data education inspiring and enriching for institutions, organizations, and learners.
We created this newsletter to keep our alums, partners, and anyone interested in learning skills for the future of work updated and connected to our ever-growing family. If you want to read our previous issues, you can check them out here.
Hi Eskweloves! Mel here! 👋 It’s the last Sunday of October 2021. Both Halloween and Christmas are fast approaching. The two holidays both feature bright lanterns of some sort. In that spirit, we would like to share in this issue the ways by which we at Eskwelabs, like lanterns, also spread light to other sectors of society.
Enjoy reading and happy Sunday! 📖🍹

⚡ Our Data Science Fellows serve Autoserved by developing its car maintenance app
Have you heard about accidents where cars or vehicles lost their brakes and killed many people?
Nowadays, vehicle owners have a better chance of shielding themselves from dangerous car breakdowns thanks to the app developed by Autoserved. This piece of software gives car owners a recommendation of parts to repair or replace after their vehicles have traveled a certain distance. For a hypothetical example, if Car A has traveled 150,000 kilometers, the app can recommend to the vehicle’s owner that he should replace Car A’s tires.
This unique app was enhanced by our Data Science Fellows as part of their capstone project before graduating from Eskwelabs. The app they designed built on Autoserved’s capability to recommend present-day repairs by adding a past repair recommendation feature. To illustrate using our example in the previous paragraph, the app which our Fellows developed can identify which parts Car A should have had repaired or replaced even before the 150,000-kilometer mark was reached.
Read our blog post here if you want us to shed light on how our Data Science Fellows were able to develop this unique solution for Autoserved. You will even find a creative and rather humorous video of them presenting their work in that blog post.
Want to learn more about how this was done? Our CTO Caleb Tutty and alums will join Autoserved co-founders during Philippines Startup Week to share more.
⚡ Catch us at upcoming virtual events
The light of data education is meant to be spread, not kept secret or retained in the hands of the privileged few.
That is why many from our team and some of our graduates have committed to speaking engagements in various events for the next few days. Even one Fellow who worked on the Autoserved app will have a chance to shine in one of these events.
The fact that Eskwelabs is providing resource speakers for these public gatherings means that we enjoy good standing in the tech and education space. In fact, in one of our events, we have audiences that come from Far Eastern University’s Institute of Technology and Ateneo de Manila University’s BYTE, a student group of undergrad tech majors. This enhancement of our stature as a data upskilling school ultimately leads to more and better opportunities for both our graduates and partner companies.
Our team is speaking at various events leading up to the end of the year. Catch up with us at any of the following:
⚡ We value your feedback
We at Eskwelabs have always worked hard to keep our community inclusive and warm. That is why we want to know how we can incorporate your ideas into the creation of this newsletter.
That’s right! We highly value your input!
In this context, we would like to request your participation in a short survey we came up with. This survey is meant to ensure that what we write in this newsletter closely follows what you would like to know more about in the fascinating fields of data science and data analytics.
Please take some time to fill out our survey here before you head out and enjoy your cup of coffee or carry on with whatever relaxing ritual you have for your weekend.
Best of all, if you answer our survey, you might win a GrabFoods voucher worth PHP 500!
That’s it for our thirty-ninth issue of the newsletter! Thanks so much for reading! ❤️
Have something to share? We encourage you to give us feedback and ideas (you may do so here) and if you like it, please share it with a friend! 💬
Have a good Sunday! See you again in your inbox next, next week! 😎
