🤗💖 We like to know how we can improve this newsletter:
Hi dear reader! Before we talk about how exciting and interesting data science is, we’d like to request your participation in this short survey (it’s composed of just six questions, most of which have answer options provided!). This will help us know what you want us to talk about in the upcoming issues of our newsletter.
You may also get the chance to win a free GrabFood voucher if you participate in this survey.
Please click here to tell us how we can best serve you with fresh content that is relevant to your needs.
👬👭 Making friends with those who are interested in learning
Now that you have finished connecting with us through our feedback survey, let us connect on a more personal level and talk about friendship.
Do you remember that time in high school or college where you studied for an exam with your close friends? What did that experience feel like? Chances are, you probably had fun studying even the most difficult subjects.
We at Eskwelabs offer the same kind of friendly warmth in many of our pre- and post-bootcamp events.
For example, if you decide to take our entrance assessment for our Data Science Fellowship (DSF) and Data Analytics Bootcamp (DAB), you can gain access to real-time and online sessions. In these special sessions, you can either write programming under the gentle guidance of an expert or answer practice questions to ensure you’re prepared for our entrance exam. You can even freely ask questions here, much like you would ask a friend about a difficult concept back in your schooling days.
The best part is, all events are free!
Aside from this, we have a special and online presentation day featuring our recent graduates. After graduation from our bootcamps, our Fellows and Analysts (our terms for those who graduated from our DSF and DAB programs) have a free and online event where they showcase data projects that help solve many current problems in business, industry, or society in general. Any curious or interested person or organization may come during this day, for free!
If you want to learn more about enriching and fun sessions like these, please click this link.
💡 Join us at one of our November events
Do you want to see us in action instead of just reading about us in this newsletter?
Well if you have time, this month is a good opportunity to do exactly that!
Whether you are a business owner, an enterprise manager, a budding entrepreneur or just a curious soul who needs a new career or life perspective, we encourage you to attend our various events. For example, during Philippine Startup Week (November 15-20), our team will discuss the human and warm side of technology and startup culture. Catch our Learning Communities Manager Francine Tan talk about this lesser known yet inspiring side of the tech sector by watching her talk on November 17. On other days during that event, there is also a workshop and more talks where we show how data science and data analytics help solve problems for business leaders and startup entrepreneurs.
Take a breath of fresh air and gain a new perspective on data science and data analytics by signing up for Philippine Startup Week and other events, which are indicated in the graphics below:
💡 From psychology to technology: One of our graduates shares his unique data science career path
Did you know that data science jobs have barely been affected by the pandemic?
According to Forbes magazine and Filipino-owned business newspaper BusinessWorld, the growth in the number of data science jobs remains strong despite the massive number of lay-offs in more conventional economic sectors like hospitality and tourism, as well as transportation.
If you want to keep yourself relevant and competitive in the job market, perhaps a shift to a career in data science might be a good start.
If you have doubts whether or not a career shift to data science is still possible for you, we’d like to share the inspiring story of Mikee Sevilla. Though his bachelor’s degree is in psychology and most of his career involved marketing or education, he was able to graduate from our Data Science Fellowship and even get a job at the parent company of Gcash.
Learn more about Mikee’s interesting career journey by reading this blog post.
📰 CNN features Eskwelabs’ free and special learning program for home-based mothers
Are you or do you know someone who is a home-based mother? Would you like to help her or yourself gain job skills for a better shot at an online job?
In case you are interested, we have partnered with FHMoms to provide the freelancing group of home-based mothers free access to high quality data education for gainful employment. Through our mobile-based Data Literacy Skillscourse (DLS), the members of FHMoms have access to free data education to help improve their hireability. In fact, there is one graduate of the DLS who saved her employer’s business from closure through the power of data analytics.
The Data Literacy Skillscourse has become so successful that it gained the attention of the journalists of CNN Philippines. You may click here to read about the CNN article and learn more about our DLS program.
And of course, our DLS wouldn’t have been a great success without the skills of people like Geenie Duarte, our new Product Manager for the Data Literacy Skillscourse. She has just recently joined our team to oversee this women-friendly data learning track. If you want to know more about Geenie’s personal and adventurous side, you may click here to read our blog post.
Keep reading our newsletter to watch out for any developments that are similar to our partnership with FHMoms. After all, we don’t stop trying to find ways to make data education more accessible to a greater number of people.
That’s it for our fortieth issue of the newsletter! Thanks so much for reading! ❤️
Have something to share? We encourage you to give us feedback and ideas (you may do so here) and if you like it, please share it with a friend! 💬
Have a good Sunday! See you again in your inbox next, next week! 😎
