Hi everyone, Francine here! 👋 We just finished the first week of April! How’s everyone doing? This month is usually the peak of summer in the Philippines, though lately—as you may have noticed—the weather has been weirder than usual. It’s been raining a lot and normally, Philippine summers are painfully dry. Still, we continue to hope for good and stable weather as we power through a summer of learning, training, and self-care for social impact. Onward! 🔥

📖 Learning Data Analytics Through Climate Change Activism
Here’s a 2-part blog post that surrounds the CO2 Emissions project of the Data Analytics Bootcamp. We’ll discuss that in more detail below. For now, here are the links and reading time for each article.
We highly recommend consuming these long reads with some coffee or tea. May we recommend some White Chocolate Mocha? Or perhaps some Sweet Citrus Iced Tea?
☕ Part 1 (8 min read) provides a brief background on climate change, the greenhouse gas effect and global warming, and discusses the project that our students completed where they stood as hypothetical representatives of a Southeast Asian country during the UN COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow.
🍵 Part 2 (14 min read) breaks down the projects (also called “data sprint”) of the different groups where each group presented their findings and recommendations for a particular ASEAN country.
🤔 A question for all our Eskweloves: How are you spending your summer?
⭐ Data Analytics
📊 Summer of learning: What’s it like to learn inside the bootcamp?
In Eskwelabs, we use the project-based learning approach via data sprints. A data sprint is a 2-week timeframe for learning with the goal of having a data project at the very end. Our Data Analytics Bootcamp is composed of exactly 4 data sprints spread out over an 8-week period.
The first data sprint or project our learners are expected to complete is the CO2 Emissions Presentation. Their main goal is to investigate and analyze the movement of CO2 data and use PowerBI to create beautiful visualizations.
Key lessons in this data sprint: Analytics Pipeline, Asking Questions, Exploratory Data Analysis, Data Validation, Cleaning, and Visualization with PowerBI, Benchmarking, Descriptive Statistics
You can check out the other 3 data sprints/projects that our students add to their portfolio. As they go through the bootcamp, they are put into groups where they’re guided by a mentor from the industry.
📊 Upskill in your current career or kickstart your journey into becoming a data analyst—SIGN UP TODAY! Cohort 6 of the Data Analytics Bootcamp starts on May 2, 2022
⭐ Data Science
🖥️ Summer of training: How does the learning extend beyond the bootcamp?
Our Data Science Fellowship is typically 12 weeks in duration but we came up with the Industry Apprenticeship so that our graduates could still extend their bootcamp experience and dive even deeper into the data industry.
The Data Science Fellowship Industry Apprenticeship is a paid 8 to 10-week, project-based opportunity for selected students. They will get to work under the mentorship of a project manager in continuing the projects they created from the Fellowship for startup clients.
The clients of the Industry Apprenticeship are startups at the Asian Institute of Management - Dado Banatao Incubator. These startups will present business problems in exciting digital fields such as e-commerce, telemedicine, agritech, and more. Eskwelabs Industry Apprentices will try to solve these problems using their data projects.
🖥️ Before joining the Industry Apprenticeship, one must first be a graduate of our Data Science Fellowship! Be part of the warmest and most supportive learning community for budding data scientists—ENROL TODAY! Cohort 9 of the Data Science Fellowship starts on May 16, 2022
🌱 Summer of self-care for social impact
What comes to mind when you hear or see the word “self-care?” For some it might be face masks and deep massages. Others might think of journaling exercises, therapy sessions, and vacation leaves. It’s true that all of these are self-care practices of different people. But did you know that one of the original contexts of “self-care” as a term was about taking care of oneself so that the individual could be ready for any kind of activism and community work? Essentially, self-care and community care go hand in hand.
Now we share these self-care tips for you so that you can continue to be a changemaker in the social impact space. One of Eskwelabs’ core values is passion for impact, and we do believe that taking care of ourselves allows us to do the work that we do.
