Milestones and Memories
In our second issue, we look at the past and share our favorite Eskwelabs memories. We also look to the future and talk about how we plan to equip more Filipinos for a post-pandemic workplace.
We created this newsletter to keep our alums, partners, and anyone interested in learning skills for the future of work updated and connected to our ever-growing family. If you want to read our first issue, you can check it out here.

Birthday Reflections:
“Education is still one of the greatest drivers for social mobility. We started Eskwelabs to redefine what that promise now means as digital skills are becoming the currency in the future of work. In our first year, we saw our students grow into data scientists and other in-demand data roles. They made sacrifices to juggle work and study. They stayed late and arrived early to work on hackathons and projects. And they braved the Manila commute in all weather conditions to make it to class. But they also forged friendships, formed lifelong learning habits, and realized they are not alone in the quest. During the Covid-19 quarantine, we continued to witness our students overcome numerous personal challenges to continue learning and growing during these times of uncertainty. And our students remain our biggest inspiration as we renew our own commitment to the Eskwelabs mission in our 2nd year.”
-Angela, Co-Founder, CEO
We celebrated our one-year anniversary online!
As much as we wanted to all be together in one physical space, there was no way to work around the ECQ rules. But we didn’t let that stop us from brainstorming and coming up with a plan to host an entirely online anniversary event.
We reached out to all of our alumni across our three programs—Data Science Bootcamp, BI SkillsCamp, and Analytics SkillsCourse—and asked them to join us in our Zoom “party room” for our online birthday celebration last May 13, 2020.
It was a unique experience seeing everyone’s faces at the same time in grid format across the screen. Others may find this overwhelming, but not for me, not for Team Eskwelabs.
(Watch our highlight video here.)
Seeing our alumni, along with members of the Aral-Aral community we’ve invited, felt right, comfortable, and easy. We didn’t realize it then but the moment people started entering our Zoom room, it doubled as a birthday celebration and a homecoming. 💖
In true Eskwelabs fashion, we dedicated a portion of the party to getting really honest and vulnerable. We shared our favorite Eskwelabs memories with the Fellows, and they told us what theirs were, too.

What is it like to work with Team Eskwelabs?
Lance is a 3rd year Economics undergraduate student at UP Diliman. He started and ended his internship with us while never having the chance to see any of the team members in person due to the quarantine. But it’s safe to say that we’re a tightly knit team, and it’ll take more than a pandemic to keep us apart.
Here’s what Lance had to say: “Joining Eskwelabs as an intern was one of the best decisions I made during this ECQ.”
Find out more about Lance’s internship here. And if you or someone you know is a good fit for our team, we are hiring! (see below)

Our Upcoming Programs
With the pandemic shaking up everything, we know that you might be asking yourself some questions about your job situation:
Q: Is my expertise or what I learned previously still applicable in a post-pandemic world?
Q: What changes will happen at work besides social distancing and am I capable of adapting to that future?
Our upcoming programs in Business Intelligence (BI) might help to answer some of these questions
We are conducting an online PowerBI-heavy training workshop for data visualization and data storytelling on May 22-23, 2020 with Lex Tanganco (former Globe data team) and Caleb Tutty (former data scientist at WestPac in New Zealand). Click here for the full workshop hourly breakdown and here to register. We plan to offer a discount to students and government workers, email us if this sounds like you.
We’re relaunching our Business Intelligence SkillsCamp! This program is focused on teaching data analytics and storytelling to an audience of current and future business professionals who wish to use tools like Excel, PowerBI, and SQL to their fullest to answer business questions with data. There are three modules, with the first one starting this June 1. Learn more about it on our website here.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can always reply to this email and to admissions@eskwelabs.com.
